Rodney – Our club received 5 thank you letters from RYLA kids we sent to camp this year. The letters are moving. Make no doubt we as Rotarians make an incredible difference in these kid’s lives.
Thank you to Gary Ransom, Richard Hall and Dennis Bennett for all of your work to make RYLA event happen. Dennis will summarize the student letters at our next meeting.
NEXT WEEK’S GUEST SPEAKER – Lucy Coleman, Polar Trek.
Lucy is a local science teacher and a participant in a research program in Antarctica.
PolarTREC is a program that pairs teachers with polar researchers for the purposes of Outreach and Education, as well as providing us teachers with a field research experience in the polar areas.
This coming November-December, she will be going with Dr. Rachael Morgan-Kiss from Miami University to the Dry Valleys of Antarctica.
She will be investigating microbial communities that live in ice covered lakes.
How do these microbes interact? How will their ecosystem change as the climate warms?
What is it like to travel to and work in the polar areas?
Fun Committee Fun Event - Last Saturday night the Auburn Ravine Revival (a band that Rod Tompkins, Lori’s husband leads and Preston Marks plays in), performed at the California Club.
Kathryn Gonzalez, who owns the California Club, sang some songs accompanied by the band.
They had a good turnout from our Rotary club members. There was also a good turnout from the local crowd as well.
Prez. Rodney played a video of Catherine singing with the band that evening, great job!

Linda Maeding – Happy x2. Linda brought back Australian Rum from her trip, and is excited and grateful to have 2 great grandchildren, and 2 more great grands in the hopper!

Jeff Ambrosia – Sad. Jeff tattled on Carolyn, a UCD alum, who thought the UCD fight song, played by Prez. Rodney was California Berkeley’s fight song, oops. Carolyn was fined and spun the wheel for $5.
Richard Hall – Sad. His older daughter’s home is only 100 yds from the Mariposa Oak fire. And Happy. His youngest daughter turns 30 tomorrow.

Catherine Russell-McGregor - Happy. She is so pleased and happy to have folks come out to support the California Club and each other. Catherine feels comfortable and blessed to be in Rotary of Auburn

Linda Maeding handled the raffle, worth $191 this week. Jody Hale drew the marble, but not the special marble. Raffle rolls over. \
TODAYS PROGRAM
Board/Club Assembly
Each chair of the board will gave a 3 min elevator speech to the group. Then members gathered around a table topic of their choice and had a conversation with that board member about the upcoming year.
Jon Donlevy – International Service. We focus project develop aware and opportunity see and experience a world through our international organization. How to come up with projects and go experience 7 areas of focus.
Brandee Ambrosia – Community Service/Interest Meeting tomorrow, Wednesday at 5:30 at Canyon View Community Center, please join us.
Our goal is in the next 2 years, to create a two year plan for our club’s community service doing small, big and anything sized in between and to hold them often.
We aim to be out in community more contributing to projects more. Your contribution to these plans are vital. Some ideas floated for our consideration.

Richard Hall - Vocational Services Board Member
This department looks for opportunities of serve society and honor high ethical standard as well as supports respecting all occupations as worthy. Activities in this area of Rotary include the Harold Weaver Award, Student Teacher Award, Employee Award, First Responders Award, Veterans Award. October is Vocation of the Year Month.
Dennis Bennett - Youth Services
We raise money to support our Youth programs for RYE, RYLA, Rotary Regal Scholarships, the Music Competition, Interact Club and more. Join our team!
Nancy Bender - Membership
We work to bring in new members to our club and keep the current members engaged. We have good looking people on our committee, we look for new members of our club and bring them to our meetings, and if they choose, we assist them in becoming Rotarians. We organize the Fireside Chats. This year our goal is to bring in 10 new members. We have 3 toward that goal so far!
Dan Gustafson/Linda Maeding – Club Services
We plan the nuts and bolts of our meetings. Some things include working with our speaker coordinator, club bulletin editors, Facebook website and Club Runner guru’s to keep our electronic presence up to date and relevant.
Fun Committee/Al Lombardo/Betty Bennett
Our name says it all. We put fun in fellowship. We organize the
Christmas Party, the Demotion Party and other parties. We take care sign ups of the main duties at meetings. Donations, Sunshine. Camping trips like the one in Bishop in September. The Ski Challenge, Trap Shoot and encourage people to attend the district conference.
Lori Thompkins - Public Image
We are looking for people to write articles for the Auburn Journal, Facebook, etc. We keep our social media presence up to date and relevant.
