Fun Committee strikes again!
Hike with “The Mayor” Sandy Amara
Join us on Saturday, October 22nd for an enjoyable 3.0 mile hike on the Quarry Hiking Trail that begins just past the American River Confluence and will take us on a picturesque hike along the middle fork as it parallels Highway 49.
We plan to congregate at Auburn City Hall around 8:30 AM.
Mayor Amara is making arrangements with the City for a bus to transport Rotarians to the trailhead and to return us back to City Hall once our hike is completed.  The schedule will be for the bus to depart City Hall at 9:00 AM, drop us off at the trailhead, and will pick us up at 11:30 AM to return us to City Hall.
WE DEFINITELY NEED A HEAD COUNT OF ALL WHO ARE COMING SO WE KNOW IF AN ADDITIONAL BUS IS NEEDED.

After the hike we will gather to have some lunch together at Old Town Pizza on High Street, their new location in Auburn.
If you haven’t done so already, please respond to me if you will be hiking with us and if you will be joining for lunch. Also let me know if you will be bringing a guest to hike and/or have lunch.
Please RSVP with Al Lombardo or on Club Runner asap

Linda Maeding - Kim MccClintock is in the hospital for cancer, Kim is sounding positive about it. She has 3 months of treatment.

Jeff Ambrosia – The 4 way test is part of my life, especially “Is it fair to all concerned?”
Jeff bet Prez Rod on the Padres Dodgers game and was the humble winner of that wager.

Mike Medlin – good visit with his 1 year old grandbaby in Palm Springs

Dan Gustafson – $50 for his wife for her celebration of 50 years. Also Dan is proud of his daughter who received the MVP for the Valley Golf League, and she had the best score, Winchester Women’s Championships. Proud pops.

Bob Dunstan – sad, $20 for President Rod; while laying on a beach in Kauai, I thought about how I wasn’t at your last 2 meetings, I was so sad to miss out.

Announcements
Steve Grundmeier – Mark your calendars for the Blood Drive on December 14.

Read the Book Phantoms by Christian Kiefer.
Mr. Kiefer will be our guest speaker at the December 5 Rotary meeting.
Torn apart by war and bigotry, two families confront long buried secrets in this haunting American Novel of World War II.
Set in Licoln Ca.

Brandee – Tuesday and Wednesday of this week – Rotary Interact at Placer High School is holding a School Supply Drive for Refugees.

All of the donations will be organized into backpacks to be given to school aged refugees coming into the Sacramento area. World Relief is the non profit organization that will distribute the school supplies to those students in need, you can check them out here.  https://worldrelief.org/sacramento/

If you would rather drop the supplies off at the donation drive itself, you can do that (today) Tuesday or Wednesday 4:00 - 6:00 in the upper parking lot of Placer High School.

If a cash donation is the easiest, you can do that through our Rotary Club Venmo or with cash or a check directly to Steve Galyardt, of which he will then pass along to the Interact Club.  The Club will use 100% of those funds to complete the school supply kits by purchasing the necessary items.

Thank you in advance for your support and by leading with your example of our slogan of "Service Above Self".

Raffle – Jeff Small ran the raffle with a pot of $724. – Healther Leslie pulled ticket, and Cris Vaughan  pulled the marble, but not the sliver marble. The pot turns over to next week.

Speaker Series – Steve Grundmeier
Guest Speaker – David Serrano, introduced by Sharon Caballero

David is currently a producer/director for TVG, a sports channel, which also provides coverage for other sports providers.  TVG will be bought by FanDuel TV which is currently in the news over the Prop 27 proposal for on-line gambling. Interesting stuff.  He has been a producer/director for over 7 years.

He has been a producer/director for Fox News and Univision amongst others.  He was the lead for the World Cup Series several years ago in Brazil. He is also the highlights editor for all sports which is provided to other TV production companies.  Right now he is predominately covering horse racing (and has fallen in love with that sport) as well as soccer.

Heather Leslie and Larry Hardy approved for membership by the board.
