We are all ultimately saved by grace. The struggle against weakness often has a U shape. You are living your life and then you get knocked off course—either by an overwhelming love, or by failure, illness, loss of employment, or twist of fate. The shape is advance-retreat-advance. In retreat, you admit your need and surrender your crown. You open up space that others might fill. And grace floods in. It may come in the form of love from friends and family, in the assistance of an unexpected stranger, or from God. But the message is the same. You are accepted. You don’t flail about in desperation, because hands are holding you up. You don’t have to struggle for a place, because you are embraced and accepted. You just have to accept the fact that you are accepted. Gratitude fills the soul, and with it the desire to serve and give back.

Guests of Rotarians

Steve Snyder introduced his grandson Troy Taylor

Visiting Rotarians

John Fink from Brentwood CA with a classification of real estate was introduced by Nancy Bender. John has recently moved to our area.

President Announcements

In support of our discussion around promoting our public image, Scott has pins and stickers available. Pin or spin!

Scott is looking for ideas to have a friendly club member competition in the spirit of the Olympics. He was wondering out about a staring competition. Send him your ideas.

Rachel announced an 11:15 meeting on the mural project for the Acres of Hope Rotary-at-Work Day. Roxy Reynolds, a talented Sierra College student, is the artist. Roxy is proposing an inspirational silhouette for the large wall. Rachel shared with us a few items from Roxy's portfolio. Please join Rachel before our regular club meeting next week to hear more about the project and roles for Rotarians.

Larry reminded us that the self-defense class for women is this Thursday at 5:30 PM at Regional Park.

Happy and Sad Bucks

Sam (via Larry) has $100 happy bucks for his grandson Brandon Frazier skating in the Olympics.

Phil has $1 happy buck for taking care of his daughter and son-in-law's Goldendoodle dog. The dog is not supposed to shed, so Phil is wondering why it took so long time to get the fur out of his car.

Joe has sad bucks for his classic Jag getting side swiped in a local parking lot. The insurance company wants to total it but Joe has a great fondness for the car and wants to get it fixed.

Linda is happy to be back (and we are happy to have her back!). She has $20 happy bucks for the support, texts, and cards. Linda says there are no better friends than her fellow Rotarians. Scott also gave $20 happy bucks for Linda being back.

Bob H. is happy to report that it has been 8 weeks post-knee surgery and he is recovering well.

Steve Wardwell has sad bucks for his wife shattering her shoulder and now he is on kitchen duty.

PROGRAM: Steve Snyder on Rotary's Greatest Moments

Steve Snyder has served in the highest roles of Rotary and has presented Rotary's vision and accomplishments to Rotarians and non-Rotarians throughout the world.  I have included a link to the text of his program and strongly encourage you to read it as it is an interesting and inspiring look at the milestones of Rotary. I will also send the document via separate email for ease of reading.
