Guests of Rotarians:

  • Nancy Nittler introduced one of our former exchange students from Argentina. Machu was an exchange student in our Club 15 years ago. Welcome Back !! 
  • Bridget Powers introduced Fabrice Perrin, he is the general manager for Cross Systems and will running the Western States 100 race this weekend. Fabrice lives in France.

Visiting Rotarians:

  • Chris Vaughn with classification as Attorney joined us today. Chris has applied for membership in our Club.
New Member Notification
 
Chris Vaughn, Classification, Attorney, has been approved for membership by the Board of Directors of the Rotary Club of Auburn. If no objections are received within 14 days of the initial publication, he/she is, upon payment of the proper fees, considered to be a Red Badge Member.
 
Announcements
 
Steve Galyardt announced that effective immediately membership dues will increase from $200/year to $235. This is a modest increase considering dues have not been increased in many years.
 
Betty Bennett read a heartfelt thank you note from Katlin Zarakowsky, a former high school student that our Club sent on Exchange to Argentina. The essence of her note was that this was a life changing experience. Betty reminded our Club that we do change lives for the better!!
 
Gary Ransom announced that there was a Covid outbreak during Week 1 of RYLA camp. Many of the key Counselors came down with the virus as did many of the attendees. Week 2 which is this week was cancelled. The 5 students we are sending will be attending the third week in July if it also isn't cancelled.
 
Scott Christenson announced that the Board of Directors met this morning and among other things, approved the Club Bylaws. Scott also made a final spin of the wheel as President and was only dinged $5.  
 
Anniversaries
Kahl Muscott and his wife just celebrated 26 years of marriage !
 
Birthdays
John Donlevy will be 58 on June 23rd, Happy Birthday John !!!
 
Happy/Sad Bucks
Bruce Lundberg was happy to return to Rotary after an episode with his heart. He very much appreciated the card Rotary sent him, welcome back Bruce !
 
Rodney Borgess wanted to thank the club for sending him to the Rotary International Convention in Houston. He also wanted to celebrate the fact that his daughter was married last Friday in front of 183 guests which Rodney happily paid for !!!
 
John Donlevy is happy to be hosting a dinner for the foreign runners in the Western States 100 and is glad 5 of his friends will be running as well.
 
Betty Bennett will be at the mile 99 party to cheer on Fabrice and all the Western States runners.
Bridget Powers is excited for the weekend and the Western States 100. She won't be getting much sleep though.
 
Steve Wardwell is celebrating the fact that his Grandson is playing for the Auburn Giants and he hit a Grand Slam in their last playoff game !!
 
 
 
Raffle  
 
The pot was cleared out last week so we need to build it back up. Don Whitaker was tasked with winning for his table but alas, he didn't select the black marble even though he applied some dubious liquid to the black marble. Tough luck Don ! No winner this week.
 
Attendance Awards
Mark Smith presented awards to 34 members who have had perfect attendance. All members were grandfathered for the Covid years. Pins were presented to members with attendance ranging from 2 years to 30 years, congratulations to all !
PROGRAM: Scott Christensen
 Scott took this opportunity to recap all the challenges and accomplishments for his year as President. These included:
Resuming in person meetings
Completing the Acres of Hope Project
Raising $2,500 for the Salvation Army
Exceeding our goal of raising $12,000 for the Rotary Foundation. We raised $22,000
Awarding a special Paul Harris to the Yamasaki family
Developing and launching a Youth Protection Protocol
Establishing the position of Youth Protection Officer
Awarding over $24,000 in scholarships
Raised $38,000 at the hybrid BBQ
Incorporated our club to protect our interests
 
Just to mention a few !! Scott you should be proud of your year as President !!
 
Rotarian of the Year
 
Scott presented the Rotarian of the Year award to Terry Cooney. Terry faithfully sets up and cleans up each week without fanfare and has helped Scott in numerous ways ! Congratulations Terry !!
 
 
Distinguished Rotarian Award
 
Scott had the honor of presenting the Distinguished Rotarian award to Steve Snyder. Scott was thankful for his advise and mentoring throughout his tenure.
