Program: Morgan Gire, Placer County DA
Topic: the Fentanyl Crisis
Highlights:
Placer County is leading the state in efforts to address the crisis and bring awareness to the issue.
With crackdown on surgical grade pharmaceutical opioids, China has filled the gap with substance that is pressed into pills
At first, fentanyl was used for people with heroin addiction.
Fake pills are sold on social media;young people buy thinking it is oxycodone, percocet, xananx, etc. They buy something that they think is something else and then get fentanyl poisoning.
Placer county is on the route from Mexico into other parts of the country: I-5 and I-80.
2 mg is all it takes to be fatal with this fentanyl.
Parents of 3 deceased young people are part of a team to inform high school students about this danger. Colfax High is scheduled for this week.
Awareness Campaign is One Pill Can Kill
Education and awareness are prime focus.
