President and Member Announcements
Carolyn Metzker gave us the sad news that Bob and Connie Haydon lost their son to cancer this morning. Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers. There is a sign up for preparing meals for the family. Contact Carolyn to sign up.
The Foundation dinner is April 11th at the Holiday Inn. Please pay for your tickets this week.
Our Club's 100th Anniversary Celebration is May 16th at Gold Hill Gardens. Tickets are available for purchase now on our website:
You can also pay by check to Steve Galyardt. Sponsors are still needed to help offset the cost of the celebration. This is a rare and wonderful opportunity to hear the Rotary International President, Gordon McInally speak.
The Brewfest is on Saturday May 4th. There are posters available to put up in local businesses. If you didn't pick some up at the meeting you can get them from Jeff Ambrosia.

UC Davis herbarium and arboretum tour will be May 9th Thursday. Peter will have the bus available and can take 32 passengers.
Pickleball training from the ARD pickleball club will be happening. Date to be determined soon. Should be fun!

Happy/Sad Bucks:
Jeff Ambrosia is sad for Mike Carson having to do a self-introduction and subpar introduction of Reese. He suggested that the table spin the wheel which raised $30 plus another $100 that Don Whitaker had given Bob Santin for waxing skis.
Bart Ruud had sad/happy bucks for the successful surgery and treatment from Sutter Auburn Faith Hospital after he injured himself picking up a very heavy piece of wood.
Steve Galyardt had his first FaceTime with his 3.5-year-old granddaughter.
Gina Acai gave $5 happy bucks for her son who was quite naughty while growing up in Hawaii but just received a good conduct medal in the army.
Don Whitaker was happy to have played tennis with Mitch Hanna.

Program - Gabe Starkey, The Gathering Inn :
As part of his introduction, Cris Vaughan let us know that we will be working with other Auburn Rotary clubs on a multi-club grant and hands-on project for the Gathering Inn.
Gabe Starkey of the Gathering Inn became the Director of Shelter Operations for TGI in Auburn. He had worked in the state probation and federal prison system.
Gabe sees how involved the community is and he appreciates the support. His company (TGI) works in many communities. Here in Auburn:
South Placer has a 65 bed nomadic shelter that can take families.
Permanent housing supporting 7 homes that serve 40 people. They are looking to expand this part of the program.
They are expanding the medical respite program. In Auburn they partner with Sutter Hospital. It provides care and shelter for those recovering from medical conditions. They are expanding into Lincoln with skilled nursing and hospice for up to 60 people.
The Gathering Inn: Mission - Meet people where they are, inspire hope and walk alongside them to get them housed. Goal - A community without homeless. Values - Inclusion and safety.
The Rotary project will help with the two local shelters and a tour of the facilities will be set up soon. Mobile Temporary Shelter (MTS) is a low barrier shelter. Come as you are, with no requirement to be sober. Counselors and support services to are provided to help them get sober so they can move to the high barrier shelter. there are various treatment options available to them. Can house up to 60 guests and couples are allowed.
The congregate shelter is a high barrier shelter that can serve 100 guests. The guests must be sober to access services. No drugs, alcohol or related paraphernalia allowed. They monitor behavior to ensure compliance.
They work with many local partners such as Stand Up Placer for those displaced by domestic abuse, Victory Village that serves Veterans, Placer County Adult System of Care for treatment and services, County law enforcement such as Probation and Sheriff.
The face of homelessness is changing. The population age 55 and older has grown rapidly. The average senior in their program only has $1000/month in income which doesn’t meet local rental costs. They will be working with other local senior organizations to provide greater services and housing. The waiting list is currently long.
They have housed 15 people in the last two months.
They are serving about 60% of the local needs. Of those that are served, 60% have mental health or substance difficulties. Seniors are not usually in that category.
All those served have to be Placer County Residents with Auburn guests required to be from Auburn.
