Placer county - #2 Quality of life in the state, 4th healthiest county Above us is Marin County for Quality of life, and Marin, San Mateo and Santa Clara ahead of us on health
Economic status: lower than state average unemployment; higher than state average income
Project updates:
Beautiful Minds, final approval by Brd of Sups in May or June this year, on Don Whitaker's property
49'r Express Car Wash
Auburn Grace Park – 8 acres
Auburn Express Car Wash
Auburn/Bowman General Plan update in progress. Adopted in 1994. Goal: Preserving our lifestyle.
Re-zoning issue. State Regional Housing Needs Assessment (REHNA) 3 years ago. First approached tried to approach with zoning overlay/rezone. AG of CA started to sue about overlay, need to upzone instead of overlay. Willing participants only for the upzoning for higher density. Has to come up with close to 1300 units of affordable housing. Consequences if we don't by May 2024: state can take over our planning, allowing builders to come in and take over, not complying with local land use plans.
Planning commission looking at EIR for the sites on 2/22. 30% in District 5, primarily in north Auburn
400 untis for DeWitt Center and Cincinatti Ave. Not just for homeless; lack of housing for people just starting out (from many professions).
Flock cameras: license plate reader cameras. Placer County in every major interest. AI being used. Recovery of stolen vehicles went from 1 per month to 1 per day with the cameras. Cameras helped in arresting murder victim. Can use description of vehicle if license plate not known.
Hwy 49 waste water improvement project moving forward.
Sexually violent peredator: the state is holding a site, has not identified where the site is, paying $7.000 per month to hold this place. If he is placed back in the community, has to be monitored 24/7. DA asked if he know where site was, and he has not. DA and sheriff very vocal about Dept. of State Hospitals has not worked well with law enforcement to let us know where the site is and other communication. Thinks we should look at other alternatives like state hospitals for those who aren't safe to be in the community without supervision, but who have served their court sentence.
Homeless: Great model with the Gathering Inn. Needs to be replicated in South Placer. Cindy frustrated by lack of progress here. Temporary shelter tents are full. Services are offered while homeless people are there.
HHS building, $90 million facility. Is available to service organizations for meetings.
Forest Hill – treating 7,000 acres near French Meadows to reduce fire hazard
