Program

Linda Maeding introduced Beverly Lewis, Placer County’s Film Commissioner and Director of the Placer-Lake Tahoe Film Office.  Beverly, is a graduate of the UCLA School of Film, Theater and Television and for a time was engaged as a documentary film producer. Twenty years ago she was hired by Placer County as its Film Commissioner.
Over the years, many films, commercials and advertisements have been filmed in Placer County. Why? Placer County offers a breadth attractions, ranging from wineries, mountains, flat lands, Lake Tahoe, and the old Hwy 40 bridge at Donner summit.  A plethora of movies have been filmed in Placer County over many decades. A Charlie Chaplin film was produced here in 1924, but more recent films were mentioned too. “Almost Famous,” “Dragonfly,” and Mark Sinclair, better known by his stage name of Van Diesel, came to Placer County in 2002 for the filming of XXX, within which a Chevrolet Corvette was launched off the Foresthill Bridge over the American River. Several films have won Academy Awards, “Almost Famous” being one of them.

Film-making in Placer County brings in millions of outside dollars. The production companies bring along a compliment of needs, but they rely heavily on locally obtained services and products to fulfill expansive lists of necessities. That’s where Beverly comes into play: She is the producer’s liaison for coordination of actions needed to coordinate and fulfill all needs.

In closing, Beverly shared that there are 42 film commissioners in California that compete for film productions within their area of operations. Placer County competes well because it offers affordability and many desirable geographical and scenic attractions.

Watch a clip of the stunt.

Weekly Trivia Question-
What country is the snowiest place on earth?

The answer provided was incorrect. By far the snowiest city on earth is Aomori City in Aomori Prefecture, Japan. This location averages a whopping 26 feet  (312 inches) of snow per year, more than a 100 inches more than Sapporo, the next snowiest city.

Locally, year-to-date snowfall at Sugar Bowl is noted as 310 inches.
