Jeff Watkins
CHP Air Ops
The California Highway Patrol was established August 14, 1929. The first Academy was located at Mather Field and the first class lasted just 2 weeks. From that beginning the CHP has grown to over 10,700 employees with appx 7500 sworn officers. In the 1960’s the ‘Office of the Air Operation’ was created.

Sergeant Jeff Watkins, Aerial Supervisor, of the Valley Division Air Operations (based here in Auburn) will discuss what it is to be a Pilot for the CHP and what types of incidents they are called on to respond to each day.
