The History of See's Candy

Feb 07, 2023

See’s Candies introduced our iconic, American-made candy to California in 1921, and it was a hit from day one. Over the years, we’ve won the hearts and stomachs of generation after generation. Our history makes us stand out from the crowd. We still use many of Mary See’s homemade recipes — the very same ones that delighted customers over 100 years ago. At See’s Candies, our heritage lies at the heart of everything we do today.

Placer County Update

Feb 21, 2023

A thirty-five year resident of Placer County, Cindy Gustafson has a long history of both work and volunteer service in the region. Prior to being appointed to the Board of Supervisors on April 11, 2019, Cindy had careers in the public and private sectors.  After moving to North Lake Tahoe in 1983, she joined a local real estate firm and in 1988 she was hired as the part-time Field Aide to then Placer County Supervisor Mike Fluty, a position she held for just over a year before becoming a full time employee for Perini Land Development. In 1991 she joined the Tahoe City Public Utility District where she worked for 26 years, filling a variety of positions, including serving her final eight years as the General Manager, overseeing the full operations of the District. During her career, she secured and administered $30 million in grant funding for a variety of capital projects including bike trails, sidewalks, water and sewer system upgrades, community buildings, public parks, beaches, and environmental restoration projects. In 2017, she retired from local government and took over as the Chief Executive Officer of the North Lake Tahoe Resort Association and North Tahoe Chamber, a position she held until she was appointed as the District 5 Supervisor for Placer County.

California Wild Horses

Mar 07, 2023

They're an iconic (and beloved) symbol of the American West: wild horses. According to the Bureau of Land Management (BLM), over 64,000 wild horses roam the western United States, with roughly 75% of them galloping throughout most of Nevada and portions of California. The most recent migration, a herd, moving from Northern Nevada to Mono County in the Eastern Sierra, is reigniting a decades-long debate between protecting these symbolic creatures and the sustainability of the landscape. Over the years, these horses have dominated public lands to the point where some consider them a destructive nuisance. However, others believe they are a vital aspect of the ecosystem, and more needs to be done to increase their numbers. To tell us more about wild horses and the complicated issues surrounding them, Dr. Amanda Gearhart, a professor at the University of Nevada, Reno, to join will join us Feb.14. She's a rangeland scientist who, a professor at the University of Nevada, Reno, to join will join us Feb.14cShe's a rangeland scientist who focuses on restoring Nevada rangelands  and formerly a wild horse and burro specialist with the BLM.

Stories of Hope

Mar 21, 2023

Motivated public relations professional and "compassionista" passionate about health equity-- whether it’s developing and implementing strategies to serve people with disabilities or to promote health and happiness in general. I'm so excited to be the new Communications & Marketing Manager at the California Foundation for Independent Living Centers. I hope to foster more diversity and inclusivity regarding disability culture in my upcoming projects. It has been an honor to be one of Sac Cultural Hub's 2016 Exceptional Women of Color. In 2015, I was honored to have been named one of Sacramento Business Journal's 40 Under 40 and honored as a "Babaeng Makapangyarihan" (Powerful Woman of the Community) by the Sinag-tala Filipino Theater and Performing Arts Association (SFTPAA).
