Meeting Opener
Opening Song: Sans musical accompaniment, the collective effort with “April Showers” was rough around the edges, off key, and Rotarians apparently did not know the tune. First published in 1921, the musical score was written by Louis Silvers and B.G. DeSylva provided the lyrics. The song was introduced in the 1921 Broadway musical, Bombo. Because Jenny Jansen helped lead the song, Bill Jansen made a spin of the wheel and contributed $20 to President Kahl’s fine fund.
Weekly Meeting Question-
“What team has won the most NCAA basketball championships? An incorrect answer was offered, resulting in fines. The correct answer would be the UCLA Bruins with eleven national titles. Coach John Wooden led the Bruins to 10 titles in 12 seasons.
Ron Martinez - found a stray Franklin note in an “empty” Rotary cash box. The $100 ended in the Rotary Fund D account.
Paul Ross – contributed $100 in honor of his daughter who long ago received a Rotary Scholarship.
David Gibson – spoke highly of Sean Manchester, a 42 year old Nevada Union High School District Director of Pupil Services and Special Education who lost his life April 1st in a kayaking accident on the Yuba River near Bridgeport. A “Go Fund Me” account has been opened in Sean’s name.
Bob Haydon – (missed it – regrets).
Dan Gustavson - acknowledged a thank you note from an acquaintance that attended the Alzheimer’s presentation on April 2nd.
Earl Wilson – His son lost his home in the Paradise conflagration and was recently reunited with his long-separated pet.

Reintroduction of a Rotarian
Barry Stigers was born and raised in Kane, Pennsylvania, a small town where he recalled the summers were like what we see in Auburn and the winters were akin to Truckee, CA weather. Barry attended a one-room school for seven years in a mix of 12 students. Music was a part of his life and he learned to play the sax, trumpet, trombone and guitar. Music continues as an interest to this day. From there, Barry moved on to a high school with a student body of 1,000. His high school had a school radio station with a one-hour news program every Friday. Barry was honored to work that program beginning in his Junior year, and in his Senior year, carried the weekend show.
Barry began his professional radio career in 1956 immediately after high school graduation as the AM news host in his hometown of Kane, Pennsylvania. Barry was program director of a 4-station chain in New York State, then morning news host in a suburban Pittsburgh radio station, and later program director at an ABC network affiliate in New England. Barry worked in television broadcast news in suburban Philadelphia before coming to KAHI Radio in the late 1990’s. Barry was initially the station’s afternoon news host and later — for eight years — as morning news host. KAHI Radio recently welcomed Barry’s return to his role as morning news host.
Barry has five adult sons, each eminently successful in a range of professions, and has been a Rotarian 55 years. He is a multiple Paul Harris Fellow and notes that Rotary is the “wind under his sail.”
