Program-

An impromptu program from Rotarian and Auburn Mayor Bridget Powers.

It started with an energetic video of Auburn, A Legacy of Adventure.  Anyone who missed the meeting is encouraged to watch the video, from the City Website or YouTube

It was a fact packed presentation with accolades to the town, residents and growth.  Some of the captured information includes:

The city is reaching next steps of growth with new boutique stores and our stores are staying open longer to accommodate the demand.

Police and Fire Chief are once again separate positions.

Airport vacancy is down to 2% from 80% just eight years ago.

Programs like Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) continue to promote Auburn as family friendly.  see link

Visit the City website to see the 20 year plan.

"Endurance Capital of the World" is officially trademarked.

Bridget is proud of Rotarians and other community leaders who are shaping Auburn with Food, Wine and Culture.

Auburn needs new individuals to fill the roles of City Council and there will be an open seat in November.

From your fellow Rotarians and the community, we thank Bridget for filling in and your continued contributions to Auburn.

Auburn [Rotary] History-

In April 1924 a group of Auburn business men met at the Tahoe Club in downtown Auburn to discuss the possibility of organizing a local Rotary Club. The first Rotary Club was formed in Chicago in 1905 by Paul Harris and a small number of local business men. The idea grew quickly with the second Rotary Club formed in San Francisco. By 1924 a Rotary Club had been established in Sacramento which became the sponsor of the Auburn Rotary Club.
A survey was conducted to determine the level of interest in the new club. Rotary regulations at the time dictated that a newly chartered club could only have 25 charter members. Interest was so high that several people were disappointed that they could not be charter members.
On May 1, 1924 the Auburn Journal reported that an organization meeting was held during a dinner meeting at the Auburn Hotel (now the Auburn Promenade) the previous Saturday. Tuesday was selected as the meeting day and William G. Lee was elected president; James Stewart, secretary; and Guy W. Brundage, treasurer.
In early June, 1924 the Auburn Rotary Club charter dated May 20, 1924 was present at a banquet held at the Masonic Temple on a Monday evening. About 200 people were reportedly in attendance.
The club soon sponsored Rotary clubs in Grass Valley and Lincoln and later sponsored the Gold Country and Daybreak Rotaries in the Auburn area.
Rotary International is the largest service club in the world with over 1,185,000 members with 34,578 clubs worldwide.
