Program-
This week’s speaker was Matt Slusher, acting Battalion Chief with the Placer Hills Fire Protection District. Matt has been with Placer Hills for 16 years and lives in Applegate with his wife and son.
Currently there are 8,400 firefighters deployed in the state, mostly on the Camp and Woolsey fires. As of Tuesday, the Camp Fire is currently 70% contained and has burned 155,000 acres including 11,713 residential structures.
The Woolsey fire is 94% contained and being fought by 1,086 firefighters.
According to Matt the fire season is now longer than ever, we can help by maintaining 100 feet of defensible space around our homes and by cleaning our gutters and roofs.
Residential fires double in size every 30 seconds to 1 minute so response time to fires is critically important.
The Placer Hills Fire District operates on a budget of $2.4 M.
