  • Thought of the Day: Bob Litchfield - Dedicated to his father who was a Colonel in the Air Force. His father described the horrors of bombing Dresden and Tokyo and believed that no one values peace more than a professional soldier. Wise words.  Bob then shared a story illustrating his point that dehumanizing others in order to take negative action is not okay.

  • Prez Steve's opening remarks: After the assasination of M.L.K Robert Kennedy gave a speech that I will never forget: " What we need in the United States is not division,” Robert Kennedy said. “What we need in the United States is not hatred; what we need in the United States is not violence or lawlessness; but love and wisdom, and compassion toward one another, and a feeling of justice toward those who still suffer within our country.” And then Kennedy said this: “Let us dedicate ourselves to what the Greeks wrote so many years ago: to tame the savageness of man and make gentle the life of this world.”

  • Over 56 attendees this week.

  • Upcoming programs include a June 15 China human rights presentation by Dr. Chin; June 23 awards video/meeting taped at the Elks Lodge by Prez Steve and Barry Stigers; and June 30 a meeting run by our first year members. We have much to look forward to in June!

  • Stay tuned for information about a club sponsored blood drive to be held in June or July; and potentially a demotion party this fall.

  • Brandee Ambrosia introduced her guest Rachel Kanowsky.

  • Jeff Wood and Steve Bender were our speakers on the topics of Reinsurance Related to Wildfire Losses and What is the California Fair Plan? A very informative presentation bringing us up to date on what is covered by the Fair Plan insurance, what other options are available for supplementing the coverage, and the current local conditions.  

Member Announcement/Happy & Sad Bucks

  • Cindy gave proud bucks for her two granddaughters receiving academic awards. The junior was awarded as the outstanding math student. The senior received three awards including a scholarship from the Lions Club. 

  • Al gave happy bucks for his granddaughter who graduated from the Universtiy of Wisconsin Madison and for another grandaughter who graduated from high school with honors and plans to study computer science.

  • Michele is donating $30 in keeping with her commitment to donate $1 per bottle of wine purchased by Rotarians plus a little extra!

  • Larry R was thinking about what the silver lining might be for the cancellation of the RI Convention in Hawaii next week. Then he realized he wouldn't be listening to Cindy all week! This caused Prez Steve to "spin the wheel" for Larry resulting in a fine of $20.

  • Santini is happy that his surgery went well and he can get back to his guitar playing soon!

  • Linda is happy for spending time with her daughter who came up from San Diego with her boyfriend for a visit. Lots of hiking, hanging out and laughing before they had to head back to work.

  • Rachel Kanowsky, classification Educator, has been approved for membership by the Board of Directors of the Rotary Club of Auburn. If no objections are received within 14 days of this publication, she is, upon payment of the proper fees, considered to be a red-badge member of the Rotary Club of Auburn.
