Virtual Meeting Notes – April 14, 2020

President Announcements

  • Pledge: Nancy Nittler

  • Zoom Meeting Host: Richard Hall

  • Photographer: Randy Mealhow

  • Notetaker: Nancy Nittler

  • Prez Steve's opening remarks:

"The word kindness has a gentle sound that seems to echo the presence of compassionate goodness. When someone is kind to you, you feel understood and seen. There is no judgment or harsh perception directed toward you. Kindness has gracious eyes; it is not small-minded or competitive; it wants nothing back for itself. Kindness strikes a resonance with the depths of your own heart; it also suggests that your vulnerability, though somehow exposed, is not taken advantage of; rather, it has become an occasion for dignity and empathy. Kindness casts a different light, an evening light that has the depth of color and patience to illuminate what is complex and rich in difference.

"Despite all the darkness, human hope is based on the instinct that at the deepest level of reality some intimate kindness holds sway. This is the heart of blessing. To believe in blessing is to believe that our being here, our very presence in the world, is itself the first gift, the primal blessing.

  • Prez Steve announced that Cathy Bianchi will be resigning from the Board effective the end of June. The Board has proposed Gary Ransom to take on the Club Service Director term beginning July 1st. Bart O'Brien explained the process that will include a Club vote during the next two meetings. The process allows for Club members to submit nominations if they so choose. Thank you to both Cathy and Gary for your service and commitment to the club.

  • Brandee Ambrosia introduced her guest, long-term friend and colleague Rachel Kanowsky. Rachel is a retired teacher now living in Meadow Vista. Rachel has experience working with Interact and RYE through her teaching career.

  • Over 63 attendees this week. We will meet again via Zoom next week. Look for the email meeting link from Richard Hall.

  • Catherine McGregor shared information that the ninja sewers of our club and the ARD sewing club provided many masks to SAFH staff but more are needed for nursing home staff. Let her know if you are willing to sew. Also, members have expressed an interest in providing food, encouragement and support to first responders and medical staff. Who would be willing to coordinate the effort and lead our members who stand ready to help? Please remember that all donations and activities are to be routed through Carol Zobel (Executive Secretary to Mitch Hanna) at Sutter Auburn Faith.

  • The club website https://auburncarotary.com/ has been updated to include links
