Virtual Meeting Notes – April 28, 2020

President Announcements

  • We started with our speaker today, Steve Farber, an award winning author and president of Extreme Leadership, Incorporated and founder of the Extreme Leadership Institute. Steve talked about how in these turbulent times we are learning together, becoming more empathetic and compassionate as we face similar difficulties world-wide. Leadership is a "big deal" with big expectations from those we lead, especially as Rotarians. Steve talked about taking the LEAP into servant leadership; Love, Energy, Audacity and Proof. He invited us to take a self-assessment at https://www.stevefarber.com/books/love-is-just-damn-good-business

  • Over 61 attendees this week. We will meet again via Zoom next week. Look for the email meeting link from Richard Hall.

  • Brandee Ambrosia introduced her guest, long-term friend and colleague Rachel Kanowsky.

  • Betty Bennett invited Romey our RYE student from 8 years ago to join us from the Canary Islands in Spain. Romey gave us a brief update of what she is doing and was able to say hello to her host families and Rotary friends. Look for another on-line visitor next week, Allison Swick our outbound student in Thailand.

  • Al Lombardo let us know that the Fun Committee is planning a Zoom-based happy half-hour. He encouraged us to buy a local brew to take home for the on-line tasting or as Carolyn Metzker says "pick your poison" for sharing with us all. More info to follow.

  • Bart O'Brien lead us through the voting process resulting in the unanimous approval of Gary Ransom to the Board of Directors, filling Cathy Bianchi's term. Congratulations Gary!Fortunately, Cathy will remain in the Club contrary to prior reporting in the last bulletin.

  • Bridget caught us up on Brandee Ambrosia winning the Turtle Award at the ski challenge last month and Dave Gibson was the fastest male. Brandee will receive a gift card to Pour Choice and Dave will get some tunes!

  • Peter Konrad let us know that the food drive last Friday included purchases at Dollar Tree and Grocery Outlet. The Grocery Outlet manager, John, donated $350 worth of food which will help local families. A strong group effort to help local families.

Member Announcement/Happy & Sad Bucks

  • Bart R: For several years, AIM has been managing the garden at the Traynor's with produce going to the Interfaith Food Closet. With the overlay of the virus, AIM may need to find a quarter to half of an acre for their garden this year. If you have space or know of possible secure garden spots with irrigation potential, please contact Bart.

  • Al: He and wife Mary went for a foothill drive through Georgetown and over to Placerville. Stopped for ice cream and were surprised no one was wearing a mask.

  • Preston: Dead batteries in two of his cars from not driving. He is looking forward to the time when we can transition to in-person meetings even if it is in the park with social distancing.

  • Bob S: Invited us to a virtual concert from his backyard on Saturday evening. His band will play your favorite old-time rock and roll hits. Look for a link from Bob through Club Runner email. Let's all dance the night away!
