The speaker Keith Diederich, CEO of the Gathering Inn (GI), was introduced by Kay Whitaker.
Keith has been the CEO for just over a month but has been active with the Gathering Inn for the last 3 years. Prior to his involvement with the Gathering Inn he was associated with Father Flannigan’s Boys Town for the previous 20 years. Boys Town provides a safe and nurturing environment for Foster children.
The GI was established in 2004 and operated on a part time basis during the winter months from 2004-2017. It currently operates year round and provides shelter and meals for 188 individuals.
According to Keith there are 3 primary factors that drive people to homelessness:
Economic factors
Addiction
Mental Health issues
Keith’s focus is on making sure the GI serves as many people as possible in a cost effective manner. His background is in business and not social work so he wants to focus on the financial aspect of the GI.
If left on the street, the Community will spend approximately $40,000 a year in services for a homeless person. People housed at the GI cost $38 a day or $13,870 per year. The GI’s budget is $1,157,000 per year currently, at least 80% of the people housed at the GI are Placer County residents.

From Silent Auction Committee:
We need your help to create a memorable silent auction and raffle at the September BBQ. You can donate an item, a gift card or an ever popular "experience". An experience item is an activity that you enjoy and would be willing to share - like leading a hike, taking a group on a boating trip, a lesson or two in your area of expertise or preparing a special meal. Sign up on the clipboard or email Amy Austin. Don't have time right now? We can combine $ from more than one member to create something unique. Need ideas? Ask Amy, Betty or Nancy for suggestions.
Thanks for your support!
